THE SHORT VERSION
Substackly stores everything locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data on any server. Nothing you read, save, highlight, or write in notes ever leaves your browser.
1. WHAT SUBSTACKLY DOES
Substackly is a Chrome browser extension that enhances the reading experience on Substack publications. It provides reader mode, typography controls, text highlights, post notes, a reading list, scroll-to-resume, and social sharing tools.
2. DATA WE COLLECT
Substackly does not collect any personal data. Specifically, we do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any identifying information
- Browsing history or the URLs you visit
- The content of articles you read
- Your highlights, notes, or saved posts
- Usage analytics or telemetry of any kind
- Device information, IP addresses, or location data
3. DATA STORED LOCALLY
Substackly uses Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API to save your preferences and content on your own device. This data never leaves your browser and includes:
- Reading preferences (font size, line height, font family)
- Saved posts in My Substackly
- Text highlights and their colors
- Private post notes
- Scroll positions for scroll-to-resume
- Auto-activate setting
This data is stored only on your local device and is accessible only to you and to the Substackly extension itself. You can delete all locally stored data at any time by removing the extension or clearing extension storage from Chrome's settings.
4. PAYMENT PROCESSING
Substackly Pro ($4/month) is processed through ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com), a third-party payment processor. When you upgrade to Pro, you interact directly with ExtensionPay and Stripe. Substackly does not receive, process, or store your payment information. ExtensionPay's privacy policy applies to that transaction.
ExtensionPay stores a token in your browser's local storage to verify your subscription status. This token is used only to confirm whether your account is active and is not used to identify you to Substackly.
5. NO THIRD-PARTY DATA SHARING
Substackly does not share any data with third parties. We do not use advertising networks, analytics services, or any external services beyond ExtensionPay for payment verification.
6. NO EXTERNAL NETWORK REQUESTS
Substackly makes no external network requests during normal use. The only outbound connection is to ExtensionPay's servers when verifying your subscription status, which occurs when you open My Substackly or attempt to use a Pro feature.
7. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Substackly is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.
8. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If we update this privacy policy, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of Substackly after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. Material changes will be communicated through the Chrome Web Store listing.
